How to Read a Plat Map

Plat Map
  1. PARCEL NUMBER:


    Always in a small circle (occasionally an oval).
  2. BOOK & PAGE CIRCLE:


    Indicates the map page (number below the map line) adjoins our map and in some cases the adjoining Assessor’s Book (number above the line).
  3. LOT NUMBER:


    Never circled – shows the subdivision lot number of the property.
  4. PAGE NUMBER:


    Of the Assessor’s Book, Page and Picture Corner #1. This is the full 3–digit number (coinciding with column one in the changes box), in an oval.
  5. ACREAGE FIGURES:


    A decimal number wtih “AC” following.
  6. DISTANCE & BEARING:


    Date on borders of the map.
  7. LOWER RIGHT:


    Brief legal description of properties shown.
  8. NORTH ARROW:


    Will not always be pointing “up”.
  9. ASSESSOR’S BOOK NUMBER & FIRST 2 DIGITS OF PAGE NUMBER:


    Located in the upper right corner next to arrow.
  10. CHANGES BOX:


    Provides the history of the map page.
    • BLK: Full, 3–digit page number area of the map.
    • OLD: The old (now changed) parcel number.
    • NEW: The new (changed) parcel number.
    • YR: Assessed tax year the change took place.
    • CUT: Refers to the Assessor’s file for document number, re: the change.
